Founded by Anil Chandaliya, Passenger Drone Research Lab (PDRL) is located in Nasik, Maharashtra and is making India’s first indigenous electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft (also known as an autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV)) four (4) passenger air taxi, named AeroHans 4S. The second model two (2) passenger model named the AeroHans 2S. The aircraft is DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation-India), FAA (USA) and EASA (Europe) compliant.
PDRL received a Certificate of Recognition by the Industrial Department of Policy and Promotion, Start Up India Initiative by the Government of India on January 27, 2019. The company won the Golden Award at the 14th Automation Expo 2019 held in 25-28 September 2019 (India).
The aircraft is a sleek modern design with a low profile making it easy to enter and exit the aircraft. The propellers are ducted for better airflow and to keep crew and passengers safe from accidentally hitting their bodies on the tip of a propeller. The aircraft has total control during flight with rotating ducted independently controlled propellers which enable the aircraft to handle strong or gusty wind conditions. The company has made a ¼ scale prototype and expect to complete a full-scale prototype in 2020.
The company sees their aircraft as saving time in your life which will increasing your productivity, reduces road congestion, no exhaust which helps provides healthier living worldwide and uses a renewable energy source, the sun. An all electric aircraft has the added benefit of nations becoming petroleum independent.
It will be easy to use the two (2) passenger AeroHans 2S air taxi because passengers can schedule an urban air flight from an app, take an elevator to the top floor of a building with a vertiport, check-in and then take their flight. The aircraft will fly at 100 km/h (62 mph), will have a 40 km (25 mile) range and flies at a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters (6,562 ft).
For passenger convenience, the AeroHans 2S eVTOL has modern drop-down touch screens which include the following current flight status information:
- Departure and arrival locations
- The entire active flight path including map
- Status of flight (takeoff, cruising or landing)
- Battery life
- Time traveled, time remaining
- Distance traveled, distance remaining
- Current weather conditions, current local time, current date
- Aircraft number
- Seat belt on, reminder
- Doors locked confirmation
- An all systems OK confirmation.
The aircraft is completely autonomous using PDRL’s own autonomous software with real-time predictability and decision making artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, the drop-down screens inside the aircraft are also interactive allowing passengers to change the flight route to the closest landing pad or to return home.
Safety features include a preflight computer safety-check including: Outer body, propellers, ducts, motors, battery status, landing gear, distance detection sensors and the emergency landing system. There is also an aircraft parachute in case of a system-wide failure. The eVTOL aircraft has redundant components for all critical systems.
The company expects production for their eVTOL air taxi will start in time frame of 2023 to 2024. PDRL is hiring.
